Aspiring cop balances jobs, volunteer positions

Some may wonder where Mia Romeo finds the time for everything. She works as assistant manager at The Children's Place and part-time at Victoria's Secret at the Great Northern Mall. Romeo, originally from Endwell, N.Y., studied at Onondaga Community College in criminal justice and her goal is to become an Onondaga County Sheriff's deputy. She is in the process of taking written and physical exams for the New York State Police Academy. Despite her full workload, she makes it a priority to volunteer in her spare time and ride along with the Rural Metro Corporation Ambulance in Syracuse and a firefighter at Moyers Corner Fire Department Station #2. The 22-year-old Liverpool resident started volunteering five years ago. As the only woman at the fire station, she enjoys the camaraderie with the other firefighters even though they pick on her sometimes.
