More than a barber

by Justin Stumberg

Steven "Skip" Chirico is a 27-year-old barber who works at Nick's Barbershop in Liverpool. A second generation Italian, Chirico's gregarious personality allows him to thrive in a service-oriented profession that draws all types of individuals to the shop. When Chirico was 23, he decided it was time to make a change from what he considered a dead-end pizza parlor job. When a friend asked him what he liked to do best, he replied, "I'd like to sit around, drink a cup of coffee, have an occasional cigarette and talk to people." So his friends asked suggested he become a barber. Two months later Chirico enrolled in barber school and began his new career. In four years, he has won over a loyal clientele.
